I’m an artist and freelance photographer on Vancouver Island, available for creative projects in Canada and internationally.
My photographic style is a blend of photo-journalism and artisitc environmental portraiture. It's all about beautiful light, stories and art.
I see beauty everywhere. Even in the darkest of places. I am goofy, intuitive, romantic and creative. I believe problems are opportunities. I work hard and dream big. I am passionate about creating images that are testimonials to the spirit and art of life.
I started chasing the light in 1997. I was studying painting, drawing, and psychology at Vancouver Island University when I got my first SLR camera. I loved how I could create an image, tell a story, or express an idea in a fraction of second. All those long nights of painting at an easel become long nights of developing negatives in a darkroom.
My interests in the colonial history of the Americas, social justice and the art and cosmology of indigenous cultures had me pursue a BA in Studio Art and Cultural Anthropology/ Archaeology at the University of British Columbia. During that time, I worked as a darkroom technician and assisted photographers. I also studied graphic design at the Nova Scotia College of Design and finished a psychology minor at VIU.
After graduating, I set off for 4 years to work and travel throughout Asia, Australia, Nepal and India. This travel helped train my eye and I started to work as a portrait and wedding photographer.
In 2011, I returned back to my heart town in Tofino. I love and am inspired by this place everyday. The land, the sea, the stories and the incredible light.
