ABOUT ME

I am an artist and photographer living in Tofino, on the west coast of Vancouver Island. It’s been over two decades since I made this coastline my home and for the past 14 years, I’ve been capturing moments through my lens, crafting visual time capsules of people, weddings, and the awe-inspiring nature.

I can still remember the day my mum bought me my first film camera in 1998 when I was going to art school. The darkroom became my sanctuary and I began to photograph everything. I worked as a dark room technician and in a camera store. I assisted photojournalists and wedding photographers in Vancouver. But it was my four years abroad that truly honed my photography vision, being immersed in different cultures and new places.

When I am not chasing the light with my camera, you can find me at my easel, painting in my studio. My creative process is an exploration of mystical, spiritual, archetypal and earth-honouring themes.

My interest in culture, history and social justice had me pursue a BA in Anthropology from the University of BC. I also have a graduate degree in clinical art therapy and deeply value the healing quality of art.

For the past year, I've been living a double life and working as a part-time relief lighthouse keeper, traveling to the most remote parts of the Pacific Northwest. It's been an exciting  journey and I've enjoyed the solitude, introspection, and time with nature.

I’m excited to be offering my services this year and am currently booking sessions for the Spring and Summer of 2024. If you are planning a wedding or looking for a photographer to capture your time in Tofino or Ucluelet, contact me with your dates and inspirations!  marnierecker@gmail.com
